GORDON FOOD SERVICE® Announces Conversion of Canadian broadline business units to the common name, GFS Canada

Richmond, BC, August 24, 2009 –– Gordon Food Service (GFS) announced today the conversion of all its Canadian broadline business units to the common name of GFS Canada.

This is one initiative of many in fulfilling GFS Canada’s commitment to provide its customers with a consistent and fully-integrated service experience across the organization and country. The current names of Bridge Brand, Distal, Neptune, and M&S Foodservice, will be transitioned to GFS Canada.

In making the announcement, GFS Canada President Frank Geier added, “The Gordon name represents high values and excellence in the foodservice industry. Our team members are very excited to carryout this heritage throughout all of our Canadian divisions.  In addition to this name change, we are working on a variety of other initiatives to optimize our business processes and leverage our expertise and supply chain capabilities from coast to coast.”

This conversion for the eight business units across Canada includes new building signage, fleet decals and computer systems, is expected to be complete by mid-September.

GFS started out as a butter-and-egg delivery business more than a century ago. Today, they are the largest family-owned broadline foodservice distributor in North America.  In 1994, Gordon Food Service entered the Canadian market with the purchase of Maple Leaf Foodservice in Ontario and Quebec.  Since 1994, GFS Canada has acquired many of the finest regional distributors across the country and has developed into one of the largest foodservice providers in Canada.  GFS Canada also has a significant network of strategic alliance partners in several value added categories.  These include Fresh Start Foods, Albion Fisheries, Intercity Packers, Trimen Foodservice Equipment, J.G.
